Innovation and entrepreneurship are in HKUST's DNA!
We are thrilled to have a full house of passionate alumni from various programs joining the first Alumni Entrepreneur Series – From Startup to IPO: 3 Practical Tips to Building a Successful Company. The event covered practical tips on startup growth strategies, approaches to raising capital, going public, and the secrets of building a successful business from prominent panelists.
Our BBA in Economics alumnus (2008), Franz WU (middle), Co-founder of YOHO Group, shared his illustrious entrepreneurial journey leading to an IPO, while K.O. CHIA (right), President of HKVCA Institute and Advisor to HKUST Entrepreneurship Fund, exchanged his views and offered practical tips to overcome challenges at a different stage of an entrepreneurial journey.
With the active contribution to the enlightening discussion from the participants, Professor Carrie LING (left), Director of HKUST Entrepreneurship Center and the event moderator, summarized some key takeaways from this Alumni Entrepreneur Series:
- Entrepreneurship is a life journey – it is a discovery of life and business challenges
- Execution is the key – ideas without action are just talk
- It is all about people – the right team, right partners, right mentors/advisors, and right investors
