Integration with Distinction: Enhancing Hong Kong’s Role in the Greater Bay Area and its Links with Southeast Asia

Much of Hong Kong’s current policy focus with respect to the Greater Bay Area has been on deepening integration. But a greater emphasis on policies that strengthen Hong Kong’s distinctiveness and upgrade its links to neighbouring markets will, increasingly, be essential. This is one of the main conclusions of the latest research reports from HKUST’s Institute for Emerging Market Studies.
In this mixed-mode seminar, Professor Donald Low will first share the key findings of the reports to highlight the key imperatives for Hong Kong to integrate with the Greater Bay Area while maintaining and deepening its distinctiveness. In particular, the city's ability to upgrade its links to the major emerging markets of Southeast Asia will prove vital to its positioning in the Greater Bay Area. Professor Joon Nak Choi will then present the main insights from interviews with more than 100 small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong to shed light on how GBA’s future development can be powered from the ground up. David Wong, Head of Greater Bay Area Business Development at Invest Hong Kong, will also offer his insights on the topic.
Agnes Chan, EY’s Hong Kong and Macau Managing Partner, will give the welcome address while Jasmine Lee, Partner, Financial Services, Chinese In-Bound Business Leader, EY Hong Kong, will moderate the forum.
This event is part of the HKUST IEMS / IPP - EY Emerging Market Insights Series.
