HKUST Business School Ideas Lunch Series – Alumni Online Sharing: Creating a Market at Your Fingertips

To keep up with our efforts in alumni engagement, HKUST Business School is presenting the Ideas Lunch Series, an online lunchtime chit-chat session featuring successful alumni from different industries.
On April 23, MSc IM alumnus William Ip, Managing Director of Carousell Hong Kong will share and interact with the alumni community online. With over two decades of sales and management experiences at tech companies, and currently driving the growth of one of the biggest virtual marketplaces, William will share with us his unique views on e-commerce, the opportunities and challenges, as well as his tips for leading a team from big corporation to start-up. The event will be moderated by Prof Sophie Fan, Assistant Professor from the Department of Marketing, HKUST Business School.

William Ip (MSc IM) As the Managing Director, William is the driving force behind the development of overall business strategy, managing the daily operations, marketing, branding and community engagement for Carousell Hong Kong. With over two decades of sales and general management experience in the technology industry, William has held multiple senior leadership positions at tech companies across APAC promoting payment solutions, e-commerce, network system security/management, integration solutions, business management applications, e-business applications and CRM solutions. Prior to Carousell, William served as the Chief Executive of PayPal Hong Kong, managing a portfolio of merchants and consumers spanning Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan with multi-billion dollar online transactions per annum. An avid Carouseller since the app launched in Hong Kong nearly 3 years ago, William combines his extensive technology industry expertise and personal experience as an active Carousell user to bring a unique perspective and energy to his role. With over 250 million listings, Carousell is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing marketplaces in Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and is backed by Telenor Group, Rakuten Ventures, Sequoia India and Naspers. |
