Fundraising Talk for Syrian Refugees - War & Peace
War & Peace - A Humanitarian Evening
Do you realize that the world now has the most armed conflicts since the end of the Cold War? In a prosperous city like Hong Kong, armed conflicts seem like nothing more than third world news to us. In effect, everything is so connected globally nowadays. In less than 2,000km away from our hometown, there is Rohingya crisis. Even closer to home, there are ongoing armed conflicts in the Philippines.
Hong Kongers are very well travelled. However, do you realize that Syria is now the only country that the HK government has given a black travel alert? The Syrian war has been dragging on since 2012 and there are 5.7 million Syrian refugees plus 6.2 million Syrians got internally displaced. They are in desperate need for humanitarian aid. ICRC, International Committee of the Red Cross, is among the few international organizations with access to Syria to support Syrians in need.
Renowned war journalist Ms Susanna Cheung and former International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegate Mr Jason Yip, will share their war and humanitarian journey with you on August 15 (Thursday), the event will be moderated by former Executive Chief Editor of Hong Kong Economic Times Mr Yau Shing Mu.
