One Belt One Road initiative will transform the level of connectivity, cooperation and trade between a band of nations stretching from China, across Asia, and into Europe and Africa. HKUST Business School researchers join hands with industry experts and practitioners to organize a breakfast talk series on One Belt One Road, to discuss what the initiative means to the business world, especially in the up-and-coming markets on the Maritime Silk Road.
How to Seize Opportunities Opened Up by OBOR in Vietnam?
In the first talk, Mrs Christine Ip and Mr David Chao of United Overseas Bank Limited will share with us the overall challenges and opportunities along the Belt & Road, and a case study on Foreign Direct Investment in Vietnam. The presentations will follow by a panel discussion with speakers including Mr Dickson Ho of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Christine Ip is Managing Director and CEO of Greater China of United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB). She is a seasoned banker with more than 30 years of experience in both consumer and corporate banking, with extensive experience in China. Prior to joining UOB, Christine has held a range of senior management positions in product and sales management, customer segment management and risk management in Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, Singapore and China with ANZ, Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC. Christine holds a Bachelor Degree of Arts from the University of Hong Kong and MBA from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. |

David Chao is Head of Foreign Direct Investment Advisory Unit at UOB Hong Kong. The Unit was newly set up in Hong Kong in 2013 to facilitate the bank's clients with their trade and investment flows between Greater China and Southeast Asia countries. Prior to working in Hong Kong, David worked in several Asia Pacific countries building strong business and governmental networks through providing advisory services to facilitate investments between China and Southeast Asia. David is a Congress-Bundestag Scholar and received a BA cum laude degree in International Political Economy from Cornell University where he was a Meinig Family National Scholar.

Dickson Ho is Principal Economist (Asian and Emerging Markets) and Head of Asian and Emerging Markets Research Team of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Dickson and his team closely monitor economic and regulatory developments and report on new market trends and consumer characteristics, especially in relation to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), in emerging markets including East Asia (excluding Greater China), South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. In addition, the team monitors trends and business developments affecting Hong Kong’s service suppliers, such as the BRI, regional integration and free trade agreement.
