Alumni and friends in the area are invited to sign up for an exclusive masterclass "Blockchain, Web 3, and Applications in Healthcare" by our Acting Dean Prof. HUI Kai-Lung.

Explore the potential of smart contracts supported by various types of cryptocurrencies, along with related design considerations. Dean Hui will also showcase some Web 3 applications in healthcare and other social settings.

Blockchain, the underlying technology for cryptocurrencies and smart contracts, presents new opportunities to revolutionize business operations and transactions. It empowers users to conduct seamless, autonomous, and collaborative digital transactions. In this session, Dean Hui will provide a managerial overview and practical knowledge of Blockchain, focusing on its applications in promoting autonomous and decentralized transactions in healthcare. 

The masterclass will be bookended by networking, providing an extended platform for participants to exchange insightful conversations. HKUST Business School alumni who register are welcome to bring a friend to join the event.

Prof. Hui received his BBA and PhD degrees from HKUST. He started his career at the National University of Singapore followed by City University of Hong Kong. He returned to HKUST in 2008 and has served in various key administrative roles within the Business School and the University.

His research interests include cybercrime economics and policy, fintech, privacy, IT policy, and electronic commerce. His research cuts across information systems, marketing, and economics, and has been published in some of the best journals. He ranks among the top 22 in the world, top two in Asia, and top one in Greater China based on publications in Information Systems Research and MIS Quarterly in 2017-2021.

Prof. Hui has provided expert advice and consultancy services to government and private organizations. He is also a frequent speaker and contributor to public opinion and knowledge sharing in the media.

Prof. Hui has taught undergraduate, MSc, MBA, EMBA, PhD, DBA, and executive courses on cybersecurity and risk management, privacy and information management, fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, big data and analytics, strategic IT management, and competitive business strategy, among others. He is a three-time winner of the prestigious Franklin Prize for teaching excellence in the HKUST Business School.
