The School is cordially inviting our alumni to join the BizInsight Forum & Alumni Get-together on Nov 2 in Beijing!

There will be a joint seminar with Tsinghua PBC School of Finance (Tsinghua BPCSF) in the afternoon, delving into pressing topics in Life Science and the evolution of AI. In the evening the School will host an alumni dinner to connect the community of Business School and HKUST family.

After graduating from the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University, Mr. Cao went to the University of Texas at Austin and the CHESS National High Energy Physics Laboratory of Cornell University to pursue graduate studies, mainly in the field of photon counting chips and high energy physics, and participated in the research and development of the latest generation of synchrotron radiation detectors in the United States. After returning to China, he founded Shenzhen XpectVision Technology Co., LTD in 2015, and began to research and develop medical/scientific/industrial products based on photon counting X-ray detection technology.

Mr. Cao is also the project leader of the national "14th Five-Year Plan" key research and development Plan, and the director of the Guangdong Photon Counting Chip and its Application System Engineering Technology Research Center, and is a local leading talent in Shenzhen and Suzhou.

Mr. CHEN Yuan Wei

PhD in Chemistry of University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Postdoctoral Research at the Scripps Research Institute, USA. From 2019 to 2021, served as a part-time professor at Sichuan University.

Mr. Chen has served as a senior researcher of AbbVie Pharmaceutical Co., LTD., a senior research scientist of Bayer Pharmaceutical Co., LTD., Chief Scientific Officer of Egret Pharmaceutical Technology (Shanghai) Co., LTD., Vice President of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Research and Development of Shanghai ChemPartner Co., Ltd., General Manager of Chengdu ChemPartner Co., Ltd.. Since June 2013, he has been the Chairman and General Manager of Hinovapharma.

Professor HONG Bo
Dean

Tsinghua University

Prof. Hong received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2001 and was a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2004 and MIT McGovern Institute for Brain Research in 2016.

Prof. Hong's research interests are Brain-Computer interface and neural engineering. The research team designed and developed a wireless minimally invasive brain-computer interface, and cooperated with the neurosurgery team to successfully conduct the first clinical trial.

He has made progress in the analysis of speech and language processing mechanisms and dynamic characteristics of brain networks, and his results have been published in Nature Communications, Nature Neuroscience, PNAS, etc. He led the team to develop high-precision EEG acquisition and brain-computer interface equipment with independent intellectual property rights, and 1024-channel high-frequency EEG products were approved for market.

Mr. HU Shi Wei

Mr. Hu has Led the research and development of the 4Paradigm Sage platform, which has ranked first in the market share of China machine learning platform since 2018. Hu Shiwei is the transformation consultant of the world's largest bank, chain restaurant group (China District), operator and generic drug company. Because of his rich successful practice in digital transformation, he was invited to be a member of APEC Digital Economy Committee.

Before joining 4Paradigm, Hu Shiwei was the head of the R&D department of LianJia, and promoted the transformation of LianJia business into Ke Holdings Inc., which was the earliest industrial Internet case in China. He used to be a senior R&D engineer of Baidu, and participated in the intelligent technical architecture of Baidu search system.

Ms. Cindy LIANG
Managing Director
Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group

Ms. Liang, Master of Chinese Academy of Sciences, EMBA of European Central International Business School. Joined Lenovo in 1995,over the past twenty-eight years, she has established two research institutes in Shen Zhen and Hong Kong as the President; established Lenovo's first robotics laboratory and computer vision laboratory as the Director; established the Hong Kong Cloud Computing and Big Data Center as the Director; and has been leading and responsible for research and industrial implementation of cutting-edge technologies such as SOC chip design, robotics, image and vision computing, big data, and artificial intelligence. She has also been in charge of the incubation and commercialization of innovative hardware products and innovative application software, such as Lenovo desktop computers, laptops, servers, smartphones, and smart TVs, and successfully introduced them into mass production.

Ms. Liang is currently the Executive Director of Lenovo Group and the Managing Director of Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group. She leads early-stage project investments in areas including original innovation, healthcare, manufacturing in the Greater Bay Area, and financial technology. As the General Manager of Lenovo Capital and Incubator Accelerator, she has pioneered a leading investment acceleration service methodology, establishing a unique competitive advantage for Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group in the early-stage technology investment field. She has turned the Lenovo Capital and Incubator Accelerator into a platform and hub connecting Lenovo Group's resources, Lenovo Capital and Incubator, universities, and entrepreneurs. She has invested in and incubated numerous stars technology projects, such as GoogolTech (301510), Bearrental (02436.HK), MicroConnect, Noah Medical, Changmugu Medical, UnionStrongTech, among others, make up more than 50 enterprises.

Mr. LIU Hui
Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer, General Manager of overseas business
Inspur Group

Mr. Liu has served as General Manager of East China Region of Inspur Group, General Manager of Northern Region of Dell (China) , Global Vice President, and Vice President of Inspur Group.

As an expert in the field of big data and energy, and the leader of Inspur Strategic Ecology, Liu Hui has been invited to do digital transformation strategic planning and consulting for overseas countries along the Belt and Road and Chinese ministries, State owned enterprises, and provincial and municipal governments, contributing to China's digital economy and dual-carbon strategy.

Prof. Qu is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He obtained a BS in Mathematics from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, an MS and a PhD in Computer Science from the Stony Brook University. He is the director of the VisLab and also serves as the coordinator of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) group at the CSE department. His main research interests are in visualization and human-computer interaction, with focuses on urban informatics, social network analysis, E-learning, text visualization, and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI).

He has co-authored about 200 refereed papers and more than 50 papers are published in the IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG), making him one of the most productive researchers in this journal. He is currently an associate editor of Computer Graphics Forum (CGF), and was an associate editor of IEEE TVCG, a paper co-chair for IEEE VIS'14, VIS'15 and VIS'18, a program co-chair for IEEE PacificVis'11 and IEEE PacificVis'12, a conference co-chair for VINCI'11 and VINCI'12, and a program vice chair for ChinaGraph 2014.

Under his leadership, New Frontier has developed into a full lifecycle, patient-centric healthcare company in China, with operations ranging from general and specialty hospitals, primary and urgent care services, rehabilitation hospitals, home health care, health insurance solutions, and medical technology, servicing approximately 10 million patients annually across 78 cities in China.

Mr. Wu is currently the CEO of New Frontier Health / United Family Healthcare. He is also the Executive Chairman and Co-founder of YD Care, Heal Medical, NF Greater Bay Health Holding / Shenzhen Sanjiu Hospital, Better Health and Prosper Health, and the Chairman of Care Alliance.

Mr. Wu holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he graduated with First Class Honors. Prior to founding New Frontier, Mr. Wu was a Managing Director at Blackstone and executed some of Blackstone’s most important investments in China. He was a founding member of Blackstone Asia, and was instrumental in establishing Blackstone’s business in China.

Mr. Wu was acknowledged by Fortune as one of the “40 under 40” global business and political leaders in 2021.
