Alumni Lunch Seminar: Breaking the Curse of “Wealth Doesn’t Pass Beyond Three Generations” 2018
It is a widely-held belief that ethnic Chinese family businesses are short-lived and are subject to the curse of “wealth does not pass beyond three generations”. While similar proverbs also appear in other cultures, ethnic Chinese family businesses appear to be more vulnerable to the curse. The question is why.
At this lunch event on Aug 21 (Tue), our faculty and alumni Professor Roger King and Professor Winnie Peng from the Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business and Entrepreneurship Studies will show how a few significant and flourishing Chinese family-controlled businesses managed to break the curse and go beyond the century mark. They will also share how family business members and their professional managers can lead amid complexities of the family business system.
