In the fast-paced world of e-commerce, Vincent Au stands out as a dynamic force. As the General Manager of CASETiFY in China, Vincent has consistently stayed ahead of the curve, from mastering the latest business acumen to deciphering viral sensations, integrating them into CASTiFY’s brand DNA.

Vincent’s career speaks volumes about his determination and vision, starting from digital marketing and transitioning into pivotal roles in Sony and Apple. Having gathered a wealth of business achievements, he also gained invaluable international experiences across three continents. His ability to thrive in diverse cultural contexts also deepened his understanding of global markets, making him a trailblazer in the international business world.

Educational Foundation and Mentorship

Vincent had an enjoyable water party on campus for summertime fun with his peers, as well as gaining valuable business learnings from group projects and presentations. 

Vincent began laying the groundwork for his remarkable career at HKUST Business School. Although he majored in Information Systems, he soon discovered his true passion for marketing and the wider business world. Mentored by a seasoned marketing professional through a mentorship program at the School, Vincent gained invaluable real-world insights from a young age that shaped his business understanding.

Reflecting on his student days, Vincent recalls leading his final year project, which involved developing an IT solution for Cathay Pacific's airline crew roster. Under the mentorship of Professor James THONG, he learned a crucial business lesson in identifying the underlying business challenges behind tasks. What’s more, he also highlights the importance of navigating cultural differences within a global context. “Recognizing subtle cultural references is key to effective communication,” he notes. “For example, Japan and South Korea utilize a high-context communication style and strict regulations, which differs significantly from the US and Europe. Developing these essential soft skills also involves a bit of game theory.”

Illuminating the future of retail and e-commerce

With over 20 years of experience, Vincent has accumulated invaluable insights into the industry’s future in Asia. Contrary to the notion that “retail is dead”, he maintains that brick-and-mortar stores are still active, albeit with evolving roles in the consumer market. “There’s a significant shift towards experiential-led retail,” Vincent says, highlighting the transition towards delivering immersive experiences rather than simple points of purchase. “Achieving a seamless online-to-offline (O2O) experience is the first step. The next step of the frontier is to implement a ‘through the line’ model. This is where the distinction between online and offline blurs, empowering customers to interact with brands freely through a social commerce model.”

Vincent's forward-thinking approach also extends to embracing cutting-edge technologies like AI-generated content and ChatGPT. These innovations can enhance content creation efficiency and provide deeper insights into customer experiences and behavior. “We’re still figuring out the true capabilities of these new technologies, but they will be the next wave of disruptors in how we do business internationally.”

Vincent has officiated the opening of 8 CASETiFY retail stores in China, which aim to offer seamless and immersive online-to-offline (O2O) experiences to their target customers.
